I love seeing crossover between your Substack, Emily, and The Pillar! I just recommended your Substack in the comments of JD Flynn’s Tuesday Pillar Post, as he touched a bit on the Church’s teaching on IVF.

Another great book on surrender and trusting God’s will is Into Your Hands, Father: Abandoning Ourselves to the God Who Loves Us by Fr. Wilfrid Stinissen. It’s really excellent.

Great response to the question re: condoms. I teach nfp and I’m saving this in case it comes up in class.

I knew you had experienced one prospective adoption loss through miscarriage; I am so sorry to hear there was another. Prayers to the God who works outside of time for healing for your family, the birth family, and all who loved both of those precious souls. I believe you will know them in Heaven 💓.

It’s so great you’re benefiting from lifting weights! I was predominately a runner for many years because it’s a cheap athletic endeavor, and I didn’t have the money or storage space for a gym membership or anything larger than small dumbbells. A few years ago I started lifting heavier weights when I had the opportunity, and it’s made a huge difference in my daily stamina and have kept my last 2 pregnancies completely pain-free. Not to mention my husband recently sustained an injury that will keep him on crutches during most of my current 3rd trimester, so I’m the only one that can lift and chase after the kids right now 🥴It would be so much harder had I not been doing consistent strength work. I’ve heard that muscle and bone mass starts to decline in women after age 35 and gets significantly more difficult or impossible to rebuild with time (which then tends to lead to the kind of weakness that increases the chances of losing balance and breaking bones, for instance), so I hope that starting in my mid-30 will pay off!

Thank you for your response on the condom question. I have a wonderful husband and we are both devout Catholics and I used to promote NFP and STILL! It is a hard teaching, and as life moves on and our bodies and marriage change, I developed new questions that needed answers from a different perspective. Speaking of changing bodies - I'd love to hear more about what you've learned (or get your recommendations on where to learn more) about health for women in their 40s and/or experiencing perimenopause!! I have a few people I'm following, but I'm in the throes of it and looking for all the info and support I can get! :)

The atrocities and sacrilege question really could have used more detail. Like are we talking about consecrating the wine in a glass vessel? Or leaving hosts out in the sacristy? Has the bishop been notified? Or just celebrated Mass and didn’t object?

Another great book for surrender is Uniformity with God’s Will by St Alphonsus Liguori.

Yes, I debated answering it for that very reason. But I figured it was worth it just in terms of walking a person generically through the steps of how to address it. I definitely prefer when people send me more specific questions.
