Good Morning, Friends! As promised, here is the Zoom link for tonight’s gathering. My plan is to get Ellie to bed, kiss the boys’ goodnight, then head up to my office while Chris finishes the rest of their bedtime routine. I’ll hop on to Zoom at 7:30 pm EST to join you and answer your questions about writing.

You have sent me more questions than I can probably cover in an hour, but I will do my best to get through as many as possible (especially the most frequently asked ones), before opening this up to questions from those of you on the call with me. I want to be respectful of your time (plus I start losing my ability to form coherent sentences around 8:30), so I will do my best to keep the call as close to an hour as possible.
Broadly speaking and in no particular order, these are some of the topics we’ll be covering tonight:
Getting Started: Identifying goals; types of writing; building a portfolio; online writing;
Earning Money: ways to earn; finding work; ghostwriting; copywriting; fundraising; changing landscape of publishing/writing; what to expect going forward; ChapGPT and its effects;
Publishing: self-publishing versus traditional publishing; how to approach a publisher; what publishers are looking for and expect; editing; marketing your book; writing and pitching a children’s book; whether you need an agent; contract negotiations and expectations
Writing Habits: finding time to write; balancing motherhood and writing; meeting deadlines; finding motivation; finding ideas; dealing with writer’s block; dealing with distraction
Training and Growth: types of degrees to pursue; ways to improve your writing; editing your work; finding your voice; finding confidence; spiritual dangers; stress and overwhelm.
I will confess in advance that running Zoom meetings is not an area of expertise for me. I’ve participated in many, but only ever run one, so please be patient with me!
Looking forward to seeing you tonight!
Emily
P.S. Some of you have asked how you can compensate me for this call. There really is no need. I am happy to do it, and no one needs to pay. But, if you really want to thank me, the best way is always by becoming a full subscriber to Through a Glass Darkly. It’s those subscribers whose support makes calls like this possible. The more full subscribers I have, the more I can offer other calls like this in the future.
