Has the Church always been against abortion or have its teachings changed over time? Can God ever forgive me for my abortion? Does the Church think women who have abortions should go to prison? Is it ever okay to have an abortion? What about when a child is raped? What does the Church say is permissible in ectopic pregnancies and molar pregnancies? If the Church is opposed to abortion, shouldn’t it approve contraception since that would mean fewer abortions? Is it a sin to vote for someone who is pro-abortion? Why does the Church care more about the rights of the baby than the rights of the mother?
Last summer, in the wake of Dobbs v. Jackson, these were just a few of the questions about the Catholic Church’s teachings on abortion that flooded my inbox. They were good questions, and they deserved a better answer than I could type out on my phone while chasing toddlers. So, in the early morning hours of August, while the little ones slept, I set out to answer them all in one place: my new e-book that I am sending to you today.
A Catholic Answers … Twenty-Five Questions About Abortion is the first in a series of free-books I hope to produce over the next year. This one covers the most confusing and misunderstood aspects of the Church’s teachings on life, and does so (hopefully) in a way that is quick and accessible for everyone.
Importantly, this isn’t a political book; it’s a theological book. It explains how the Catholic Church—not the Republican party—understands these questions. It is designed to help you understand the Church’s teachings on abortion more deeply and help you explain those teaching to others with greater clarity and charity. It is meant to be a tool, and one I hope you share widely. One of the reasons I am not charging for this book, is because I want to make it affordable for everyone to use, for themselves, in the classroom, and in the parish. So please feel free, if you think it valuable, to share on social media, in email, with your parish, or in your children’s schools.
Right now, the book is available through Apple Books, Barnes and Noble, and as a downloadable PDF.
I hope this book proves useful to you. If it does, please consider becoming a full subscriber to this newsletter. In addition to having full access to all of my monthly newsletters (including all previous ones), you’ll be helping make more projects like this possible and receive first access to all future e-books. Thank you for your support.
