It’s the second week of Advent, and my Advent candles are still in the basement. I’m writing a series of reflections on Advent for this newsletter, and I have no actual clue where my Advent calendar is. I have Jesse tree ornaments somewhere, but not somewhere I’ve looked in the last week. And the Christmas books, which I had hoped to wrap and bring out one by one, each day of Advent, are mostly still in the attic, with only a few having been hastily grabbed and brought downstairs.
Our house is in a similar state of chaos, with bags from Thanksgiving travel still unpacked, laundry undone, book packing supplies littered throughout our dining room, and boxes piling up in the living room. The chaos has been compounded by my children, who are transitioning time zones for the second week in a row and have attitudes which match the crazy of the house. Last night Becket collapsed into tears a dozen times because Toby was standing too close to him.
